The shift engineer at the Plevlja RD Power Plant, without the permission of his superiors and following the procedure, authorized the valve operator to open the valve, which caused an environmental incident in Ćehotina.

On Saturday, sports fishermen took out about a ton of dead fish from Ćehotina, after, as is suspected, waste water from the Thermal Power Plant poured into that river.

From Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG), they said that their special commission, after another detailed analysis, determined that an employee of the "Pljevlja" TPP manipulated the valve that controls the discharge of substances into the Vezišnica River, which flows into the Ćehotina.

"According to his own admission, the shift engineer RD, without the permission of his superiors and following the defined procedure, gave authorization for activity to the operator on the mentioned valve, which led to an environmental incident," EPCG said.

EPCG, as they stated, regrets this unfortunate event and expects precise information from the competent inspection on the damage caused and the size of the river's clouding and fish deaths, as well as the prosecution of all those involved in this case.

It is stated that EPCG, regardless of the existence of all legally prescribed procedures and regulations, which treat that area, due to the mentioned incident, will once again review all procedures in order to prevent the occurrence of such and similar situations.

"Regardless of the final epilogue of this environmental incident, EPCG, as a responsible company, in cooperation with competent institutions, local self-government and SRK "Lipljen", will do everything in order to rehabilitate this environmental incident, all with the aim of increasing and preserving the fish stock in these Pljeval rivers," EPCG said.
