Statehood Day celebrated in Bijelo Polje

The Statehood Day of Montenegro, in commemoration of July 13, 1878, was marked in Bijelo Polje by the traditional laying of wreaths on the Monument to Fallen Soldiers in the town square.

Recalling the popular uprising against fascism, the President of the Municipality, Petar Smolović, said that the state self-awareness of Montenegro culminated on May 21, 2006, with the decision on independence, which properly honored the sacrifice of our ancestors in realizing the age-old dream of sublime freedom.

"Equal status in the NATO alliance, certain membership in the European Union and benefits with visible economic indicators are sure proof that, on behalf of our citizens, we have made a quality choice, a rational political direction and we are well on our way to achieving economic prosperity," he said. Smolović.

Welcoming those present on behalf of UBNOR and anti-fascist Dr. Rajko Stevović pointed out the importance of July 13, especially because of the ideas and values ​​it promotes and preserves, freedom and anti-fascism.

"This is the day when we remember 50 thousand Montenegrin fighters and civilians who gave their lives for freedom," said the president of OBNOR, Mirko Stanić.

Besides them, wreaths were laid on the monument by representatives of political parties, as well as guests from NOR organizations from Prijepolje, Pritor, Knjaževac, Belgrade and Bela Palanka.
