The Skadar Lake National Park Protection Service, in cooperation with the Border and Maritime Police, prevented poaching with spears and other illegal means in the park during the weekend, said the director of the Skadar Lake NP, Nenad Ivanović.
"On that occasion, the Protection Service seized and temporarily confiscated illegal means that have a negative effect on the flora and fauna of this water area: ostriches (4 pieces), a gas lamp (3 pieces), a gas bottle (3 pieces), an electric lamp (1 piece), electric converter (1 piece), accumulator (1 piece) and outboard motor (1 piece). Persons caught in poaching will be prosecuted by the competent state authorities," announced NP Skadarsko jezero.
As they said, on January 14, in the Koraćica area, the protection service of Skadarsko Lake NP, among other things, carried out regular activities for the protection and control of the water area, seized illegal assets: fishbones, a gas lamp and a gas bottle; while on January 18, illegal fishing was prevented by construction. At the beginning of February, about 40 fishing nets were confiscated in the Krnjica and Vaškauta region, on February 20 in the Blace region, 30 fishing nets were seized, and on February 22, a gas lamp and fishing nets were confiscated in the Pantovac region.
"The Skadar Lake NP protection service regularly carries out space control activities in order to preserve all the values of this cross-border natural area. Of particular importance is cooperation with members of the border and maritime police, members of fishing associations, volunteers and locals. In order to preserve natural values and prevent the of illegal actions that can endanger flora and fauna, NP Skadarsko jezero invites ecologically responsible citizens to report illegal activities to the hotline 067 310 454," the NP Skadarsko jezero says.
NP Lake Skadar was founded in 1983 and is recognized for its wealth of flora and fauna, especially fish and birds. Lake Skadar is the largest freshwater water body in Southeast Europe.
