The Center for the Protection and Study of Birds (CZIP) will file a criminal complaint against an unknown person for the murder of two adult birds, which were nesting with three birds on Mareza.

The organization told "Vijesta" that on Monday evening they received a tip that an unnamed man had killed the parents of a stork, a species that has been protected in Montenegro since 1981.

"Immediately after receiving the report, we were on the spot and around 22.00:4.30 p.m. we searched the location. We found three birds on the nest, but no parents. We have been there since XNUMX:XNUMX this morning, the three chicks are still waiting for their parents. Since the parents are still missing, we can safely to claim that half of the stork's breeding population in Montenegro was killed on a whim," Bojan Zeković from CZIP told "Vijesta".

A pair of nesting storks from Mareza have been staying at that location since the beginning of summer. Until then, the only storks that nested in Montenegro were Perka and Perko, storks from Polimska Street in Berane.

Zeković said that the question is what will happen to the young people of the murdered couple.

"The question is whether they will be able to feed themselves and gather energy for their arduous journey to Africa. Two birds flew out of the nest this morning, the third is completely condemned to death if he is not able to look for food on his own. The birds were fed this morning by colleagues from Montenegro society of ecologists, but it is already an adult individual that is afraid of people," Zeković said.

Ornithologist Darko Saveljić posted a message on his Facebook profile about storks, in which he states that this type of bird is a positive character in the stories of all nations.

"The stork brings happiness, brings children, heralds spring. To shoot a stork is to shoot a charm. However, some citizen of this country killed both parents of these birds. Another pair of storks in Montenegro, on Mareza. I have had communication with diplomats so far, with hundreds of foreigners who worked or stayed as tourists in Montenegro. And everything they told me about us as a nation, the case of these unfortunate parents confirms that it is true," wrote Saveljić.

He added that he was ashamed of the suffering of those birds.

"Dear storks, accept my expression of deep shame. Since, if they survive, your relatives will soon leave for Africa, let me know if I can return this Montenegrin passport and take any other, because I don't want to belong to a nation that kills storks, flamingos and pelicans," he wrote.

During the past year, a vulture and a pelican were killed in Montenegro. They confirmed that the birds were killed by firearms, as the CZIP said at the time x-rays.

The CZIP has no doubt that the case of the family from Mareza is also a case of murder.

"For both parents to disappear in one day - that is very difficult," said the organization.

Although they doubt a positive outcome after submitting the application, they say they do it anyway, because it is their obligation as a bird protection organization.

They also sent an invitation to anyone who has any information about the killing of a stork on Mareza, to contact them.
