Locals of Njivica near Herceg Novi claim that about 50 meters from the bathing area, faecal water from the nearby "Iberostar" hotel is pouring into the sea.
"Vijesti" was addressed by one of the locals, who complained that in addition to the dirty water, one could also smell the stench.
"Unlike previous similar cases, this time it was also seen on the calm surface of the sea how the mentioned hotel throws out waste (fecal) water without any kind of purification, because feces, toilet paper, etc. were seen," the reader states.
He submitted two recordings. The first one is from a year ago and the second one was made today.
"Unfortunately, I had to take this second one from my hand, i.e. from a vessel, because it would have been risky if I had dived in such a sea. I also have many photos with which I can confirm all this," he concludes.
The Municipal Police of Herceg Novi stated that the hotel does not have a water permit and that the procedure is ongoing.
Herzegovinian Vodovod informed "Vijesta" that "Iberostar" has its own waste water regulation system through bio purifiers and that they are not aware of the case. They point out that Vodovod has no obligation towards the hotel and that they can intervene only at their request.
The beach near the Iberostar Hotel in Njivice, according to the latest measurements of sea water parameters by the Kotor Institute of Marine Biology, had a lower class quality, K2.
Iberostar: Purified technical water is poured into the sea
This hotel told Radio Jadran that the information posted was untrue.
"The hotel has the latest bioseptic treatment system for fecal sewage. The system is REDI/ISEA certified according to ISO 14001:2015, ISO 9001:2015 with 3 treatment cycles before discharge:
I Pre-cycle implies separation of sedimentary organic and inorganic solids from oil and water separators from the kitchen, rooms and toilets; II The process is anaerobic where bacteria decompose the remaining part; III The process is disinfection with sodium hypochlorite before discharge.
The system is fully functional so that technical water is discharged, while solid waste is emptied by the communal organization once a week or more often in case of need, so that part is not discharged into the sea under any circumstances. All necessary documentation with certificates is available at the hotel.
Representatives of the Municipal Inspection carried out an investigation, after reviewing the documentation and the system, they did not detect any irregularities in the treatment system, nor did they impose any kind of sanctions. The necessary issuance of the Water Permit by the responsible department has been indicated, which will be done as soon as possible - it is stated at the end of the announcement of Iberostar Herceg Novi.
