During the construction of the priority section of the highway (Smokovac - Mateševo), there was undoubtedly an ecocide, because the devastation of the river bed took place, which can be clearly seen in the latest images we took when we went out to the field, announced the Civic Movement URA.
They say that this assessment was also made by UNESCO, under whose protection the Tara River is, and that so far no one in charge has taken responsibility for it or offered a valid explanation.
"On the recordings that we are making available to the public, it is clearly noticeable, even to a layman, that the Tara river bed has been devasted by the narrowing of the river bed due to the creation of artificial embankments, mainly made of rubble and construction material on both sides of the bank, and there has also been a change the course of the river so that in one part it completely changes its course and continues to flow at a right angle of 90 degrees. We recently learned about such a situation with the delegation of the Greens of Europe who stayed in Montenegro and who pointed out that they will closely monitor the events in the European Parliament and the situation surrounding the devastation of Tara," said the URA Civil Movement.
They also add that in the coming period, together with friends from the NGO sector and environmental activists, they will continue to monitor the situation and do everything to stop any further devastation of Tara, which, as they say, is already irreversibly devastated in many parts.
"All this is done by people who do not love their country. People for whom the preservation of the natural environment, our most valuable resource, is not on the list of priority actions. These are the ones who are most responsible for the devastation of natural resources throughout Montenegro and make up the current ruling majority", according to URE .
They conclude that they will defend every piece of nature in Montenegro because they will not allow something that is the property of all citizens to be managed by "a group of insatiable profiteers, corrupt officials and criminals".
