Even after more than a month, the problem of transporting students in the Beran villages of Bubanje, Štitari, Crvljevine, Krlje, Lukavica and Rujišta has not been solved yet, and the local residents of around three hundred households from the area consider it extremely frivolous.
The inhabitants of these villages pointed out that they no longer have time to wait and warned that they will withdraw their children from school if the indicated problem is not solved as soon as possible.
"For more than a month, we have been waiting for the issue of student transportation to be resolved. Despite the extremely unenviable situation in which we found ourselves, we showed a degree of patience, counting on the authorities to respond positively to our requests. However, we have not yet received a precise answer, which hurt us, as people and parents, a lot. Now we are saying that we will not wait any longer and that we will withdraw the children from school, if the transportation of students is not established again", says Marko Korać.
12 high school students from that area attend classes in Berane, while 28 elementary school students go to the local school in Štitare, parents remind. They state that for 18 years, a vehicle that organized the transport of local residents, among whom there was a large number of schoolchildren, traveled to these villages, and that this transport was canceled this year, because the carrier claims that the line is unprofitable.
He recalls that for 18 years, a vehicle that transported locals, among whom there was a large number of schoolchildren, drove to these villages.
At the beginning of September, the Municipality of Berana led a polemic with the Ministry of Education, accusing them of a careless attitude towards student transport in the north and the danger of closing another rural school. The Ministry responded that it is the Municipality that should provide transportation on local lines, while it is within their competence to only subsidize transportation for students.
The Municipality said that they had done everything that was necessary, that is, that they had announced a tender for public transport to which no one responded and that the Ministry and the Government should solve this big problem the way they solved it in Murina, or by allocating a special vehicle only for transportation of students in order to preserve the village school in Štitare and stop the migration that is taking on worrying proportions.
