Young Montenegrin researchers received financial support from the Ministry of Science to, among other things, investigate the influence of genetics in schizophrenia, the potential of essential oils of medicinal plants from the territory of Montenegro, and the transformation of Montenegrin foreign policy from 2007 to 2017.

Yesterday, the Ministry announced the names of 17 doctoral students who will be awarded scholarships for doctoral research worth 750.000 euros.

At the first, last year's competition, the Ministry awarded scholarships to 19 young researchers.

"This year, that number increases to 36 because we received an additional 17 candidates through the new competition, which means that in two years we allocated 1.5 million euros to strengthen human resources and research capacities... The Ministry of Science intends to announce the same competition next year as well, in order to achieve a critical mass of about 50 young researchers and the ultimate goal of retaining talent in Montenegro," Sanja Damjanović's department announced yesterday.

The Ministry has approved 17 scholarships for a period of up to three years, which include a monthly fee for researchers in the amount of 700 euros, free tuition for doctoral studies at universities in Montenegro, but also significant funds for research, an important segment of which is international or intersectoral mobility, in the amount up to 10.000 euros per year.

The evaluation of 33 received applications was done, as emphasized, by international evaluators.

Out of 17 scholarships, 13 are in the field of natural-mathematical, technical-technological, medical and agricultural sciences, and four are in the field of social sciences and humanities. Of them, 14 are from the state University, and three from the University of Donja Gorica.

Arso Ivanović, Neda Bošković, Maja Čabarkapa, Božidar Šoškić and Alma Kurtiš received scholarships from the Faculty of Science, and Milena Petrović, Miljana Anđelić, Mirko Lipovac, Batrić Vukčević and Tijana Vukadinović from the Faculty of Medicine. Ana Pavlićević from Elektrotehnička was awarded, Ana Radulović from Pomorski, and Nikola Mićunović from the Faculty of Information Systems and Technologies.

Scholarships in the field of social sciences and humanities were awarded to Filip Petrović from the Faculty of Economics, Ksenija Rakočević from the Faculty of Philosophy, Boris Ćalić from the Faculty of Arts and Zoran Dabetić from the Faculty of Humanities. Among the areas that will be researched are folk costumes, women in Montenegro until the end of the 16th century through the prism of history, mythology and emotions, the impact of information technology on successful business, non-invasive methods in risk assessment for the development of coronary artery disease, the quality of electricity in electrical distribution networks in conditions of increased use of electric cars, etc.
