The Prime Minister of Montenegro, Duško Marković, said that we must understand that education does not begin when a child goes to school, and that it is difficult, if not impossible, to make up for what is missed in the first years of life, his office announced.

"Montenegro has irreversibly become part of the modern and advanced world. In order to survive as a society in the global game, we must create conditions so that our future generations do not lag behind their peers from the most developed societies in anything. And least of all in their educational capacity," said the Prime Minister. Marković opening the conference "Investing in the early years - Conference on fiscal and administrative imperatives for the early development of children".

For the future of our society, he pointed out, it is extremely important that we understand the necessity of multiple investments in the early development of children - and as a responsible society that recognizes the challenges of the times to come; and as individuals and families who have the obligation to prepare their children for these challenges in the best possible way.

"The benefits of our current work, especially the economic growth and overall stability of Montenegrin society, will be largely felt by the youngest category of our population. We have no doubts that by investing in their first steps, we ensure the long-term and sustainable development of society, established on sound foundations," said President Marković at the conference organized by UNICEF and UDG.

The Prime Minister said that "in the coming period, we will continue to actively support and implement policies towards the achievement of equality, inclusion and protection of the most vulnerable, and a special focus will be on establishing a system for monitoring the implementation of the adopted solutions."

He assessed the relationship between the Government and UNICEF as high-quality and partner-like and pointed out that it has led to significant changes in society in the area of social policy and child protection:

"This is confirmed by numerous joint projects that resulted in the implementation of reforms in the field of comprehensive protection of children and youth, which is high on the priority agenda in the work of the Government of Montenegro."
