Young people in Montenegro are often just a decoration and do not participate in decision-making. The reason for this is partly their passivity, but also the fact that young people do not have enough information about opportunities and programs that would contribute to their empowerment.

This, among other things, is the message from the panel "Youth Mobility in Montenegro", which was organized yesterday in Podgorica by the non-governmental organization "Prima".

How to increase the participation of young people in making important decisions in society is also the topic of the regional project "Network of Youth Funds of the Western Balkans and Turkey", which is being carried out for four years in Montenegro, Serbia, Albania, North Macedonia and Turkey.

The coordinator of the project in Montenegro, Aleksandra Gligorović, presented part of that research and the participation index of young people at the panel yesterday. Among other things, she said that despite the implemented measures, in the last three or four years, the percentage of self-employed young people in Montenegro has decreased, and that the number of young deputies in the Assembly has increased. The research also showed that, compared to other countries in the network, Montenegro has the largest number of young people who dropped out of secondary education and that, compared to the previous two years, the percentage of young people in prisons increased in 2018. Thus, according to research, compared to the total number of prisoners, 52,2 percent of Montenegrin prisons are young people. That percentage was 2017 and 30,2 percent in 33,2 and the year before.

The panel also presented various programs of the European Union, which enable young people to live abroad for a while, volunteer, work, get an education...
