The ecological movement "Ozone" announced that today it received a report of observed poaching in the area of the Skadar Lake National Park, with videos from the field confirming illegal activities in the Karuč area, in which the fishing ban for all types of fish is valid until May 15, 2024. years.
They also submitted the videos they received with the application.
From "Ozone" they added that they sent the video materials to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Directorate of Fisheries, which is responsible for monitoring and inspection, and asked them to inform us about the measures taken.
"It is obvious that the National Parks of Montenegro do not have sufficient human and technical capacities to deal with ecocrime of this scale, and that the focus of their management is the collection of entrance fees, permits and other commercial services, and not stopping the devastation of ecosystems and natural resources that are theirs. entrusted in order to manage them sustainably, such as poaching, illegal logging, illegal construction, etc.," states the statement of "Ozona". From that movement, they said that if the protection services cannot provide an eye like Karuč, where the fishing ban was introduced in order to save endangered species and preserve their survival, then they do not see the purpose of that decision.
"As the Coalition for Sustainable Development (KOR) has already submitted evidentiary materials about poaching, abuse of official position and other illegal activities in the Skadar Lake NP zone and other areas managed by NPCG, which we received through our applications for reporting ecological problems, we believe that "Ecocrime needs to be dealt with by institutions that are responsible for organized crime, that have the necessary resources and are trained for it," they said from "Ozon".
They also state that they warned that poaching would intensify at the beginning of the fast and that this is a trend that has been repeated for decades, so this case today confirms that there is a justified suspicion that this is being deliberately facilitated and that it is being done in conjunction with employees of the competent institutions.
"We expect the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in accordance with its competences, to take measures against those most responsible, which are undoubtedly the leaders of the NPCG, headed by director Elvir Klica, whose resignation is one of the 10 requests that KOR publicly sent to the Government of Ctna Gora", they said from "Ozone".
