Montenegro has regressed in terms of human freedom compared to last year - from 52nd to 53rd place out of 162 countries in the world, according to the results of the Kato Institute.
The only countries in the region that according to the Human Rights Index (HFI) had worse results than in 2018 are Montenegro and Serbia.
The HFI represents the state of human freedoms in the world, which is based on a series of measures that include personal and economic freedoms, and among the 76 indicators it uses are, among others, the rule of law, safety and security, religion, freedom of expression...
Montenegro has better results in terms of human rights, and worse in terms of economic freedoms.
In terms of personal freedoms, Montenegro ranks 45th, while last year it was 56th in the world.
For the year, the rating of personal freedoms increased from 7,63 to 8,03. In the part related to the rule of law, the growth is minimal from 5,1 to 5,2.
On the issue of safety and security, a slightly better result was recorded because among the three indicators, Montenegro for the first time has a score for the safety and security of women, which is 8,8 out of a possible 10. On the issue of movement, which includes movement in the country and abroad and movement woman, Montenegro enjoys ten.
When it comes to religious freedom, the rating remained the same as last year - 8,9.
On the issue of freedom of expression and information, the rating increased by two and a half points to 7,7.
The marks for the legal regulation concerning the media and political pressure and control of the media remained the same at 5,3 and 5,7, and the highest marks were obtained in the part concerning murders and imprisonment of journalists.
When it comes to identity and relationships, there is a score like last year - nine.
However, when it comes to economic freedom, Cra Gora fell from 72nd to 83rd place.
The decline primarily refers to parameters related to the government.
When it comes to the size of government, it dropped a whole point to 5,9.
The worst result in the part related to the government is its companies, where the score was cut in half from eight to four.
All other parameters remained largely the same.
Of the countries in the region, Montenegro is better than Bosnia and Herzegovina (55), North Macedonia (56), Serbia (58), but worse than Slovenia (35), Croatia (37) and Albania (38).
Compared to last year, Slovenia and North Macedonia maintained their rating, Croatia improved by seven, Albania by ten and Bosnia and Herzegovina by four places. Serbia worsened by seven places.
At the top of the list of countries in terms of human freedom are New Zealand, Switzerland, Hong Kong at the very bottom, Yemen, Venezuela and Syria.
