The Government of Montenegro has given permission to the Municipality of Ulcinj to erect a memorial to the victims of the 1979 earthquake.
"The proposed location of the monument will be near the Old Town and the scaffolding, given that the Old Town of Ulcinj was the most affected area, and the visual solution and shape will be determined by a competition, after obtaining approval for the construction program. The names of the citizens of Ulcinj who lost their lives in the earthquake". it is stated in the consent proposal.
The Government session was held yesterday.
By the way, according to the provisions of the Law on Monuments, it is prescribed that a memorial for a significant event cannot be erected before the expiration of 50 years from the day when the event took place, and that exceptionally, with the prior consent of the Government, a memorial for significant an event or a prominent person can be raised before the expiration of the prescribed legal term.

"Bearing in mind that by erecting this memorial, the victims are honored in a dignified manner, and it reminds of the solidarity of all those who helped the vulnerable, and symbolically warns of the destructiveness of earthquakes and the importance of aseismic design, and bearing in mind that there is no danger of devalues the importance of this event in the coming period, the Ministry of Culture proposes to the Government of Montenegro to give consent for the construction of memorials, before the expiration of the legal term," reads the document that was before the Government yesterday.
