In the Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG), the conditions for the work of employees and the stay of patients were significantly improved last year, said director Jevto Eraković and added that more doctors started employment in the largest health institution than left.

Eraković said that KCCG fulfilled all the set tasks and goals during the last year, and even exceeded them in some areas.

"In a large number of clinics, new, modern equipment has been acquired and the application of numerous procedures has begun, while the renovation and adaptation of the space significantly improved the conditions for the work of employees and the stay of patients in a large number of organizational units," said Eraković to the MINA agency.

He announced that, thanks to the Government, as well as friends, socially responsible companies and individuals, who contribute to the development of KCCG with numerous donations, almost 7,5 million euros were invested last year in the reconstruction of organizational units, restoration and procurement of medical equipment, of which from the budget more than 6,6 million from the state, and almost one million euros from donations.

According to Eraković, the state-of-the-art magnetic resonance device MR Skyra, with a power of 3 Tesla, was acquired, thanks to which KCCG is ranked among the few European hospital centers that have the technical capabilities to provide citizens with this type of diagnostics on a device that is unique in the Balkans.

As he added, a gamma camera, the latest generation in the Center for Nuclear Medicine of the Clinic for Oncology and Radiotherapy and a linear accelerator were also acquired.

"In the Institute for Children's Diseases, we have provided the most modern medical equipment, such as a 1,5T magnetic resonance machine, then an ultrasound machine for cardiology patients, an ultrasound machine for radiological diagnostics, complete equipment for the Intensive Care Department, an operating table in the operating block, as well as surgical instruments, and the acquisition of a new scanner is underway," said Eraković.

He reminded that at the end of last year, another new linear accelerator was put into operation, so that now the Clinic for Oncology has three such devices, thanks to which there will be no need to refer patients to health centers outside Montenegro for this type of treatment, but the complete can receive treatment at KCCG.

"In the IBD, the Intensive Care Unit has been reconstructed and the space that will be used to accommodate a new scanner, the procurement of which is in progress. The reconstruction of the Internal Medicine Clinic has been completed, and at the beginning of the year the Clinic for Urology will get a new operating room, and the Center for Medical Genetics and immunology and the Dental Polyclinic will be located in a new, modernly equipped and adapted space," said Eraković.

He cited the lack of space in order to better organize the Emergency Center as the biggest problem in the work of the KCCG.

"The emergency center is very busy throughout the year, especially during the summer season. Sometimes 220, 250, and even over 300 patients are examined per day in 24 hours," said Eraković and reminded that the KCCG building was built in 1974 for the then needs of the Capital City and its surroundings.

According to Eraković, internal, surgical, orthopedic and neurological outpatient departments are the most burdened.

"The usual pathology is acute heart patients, chronic patients, as well as stomach, viral and respiratory infections. As for the orthopedic and surgical part, we had the opportunity to take care of a large number of seriously injured motorcyclists, injured in violence, injured in traffic accidents, patients with injuries received during construction work. It is a common pathology that has been present for a decade or more," said Eraković.

One of the main problems, he added, are chronic patients who bypass the chosen doctor.

"Given that it is a small space, with little capacity, the workload is serious. We manage to serve all patients with equal quality, but we have certainly initiated the construction of a new emergency block, which is the largest infrastructure project, according to the authorities," said Eraković.

He pointed out that the health system is extremely alive and requires large investments, but that the Government recognizes its importance, which is confirmed by the increasing allocations for health care every year.

"In accordance with the strategic plan of KCCG, we expressed the need for real financial functioning this year and we expect that, as the carrier of the health system, we will receive an adequate budget," said Eraković.

He said that this year, with the support of the European Commission and the Government of Montenegro, the construction of a facility that will house a clinic for infectious diseases and dermatovenerology will begin.

Eraković announced that the plan of activities for the next year includes the adaptation and reconstruction of the Clinic for Plastic Surgery, the Clinic for Neurosurgery, Urology, Physical Medicine, and the work on the Clinic for Neurology, where a new intensive care unit will be established, is crucial. about half a million euros.

Eraković pointed out that during the last year, the application of a certain number of extremely complicated procedures, which are performed only in a few reference health centers in this part of Europe, successfully began.

As he stated, one of the largest surgical interventions performed in the world today and represents the pinnacle of surgery, the intraoperative application of cytostatics, began to be performed at the Center for Digestive Surgery, and Dr. Ranko Lazović also performed the first laparoscopic surgery for a colon tumor.

"At the Institute for Children's Diseases, a team of surgeons led by Dr. Saša Radović performed a reconstructive surgical method to eliminate urogenital anomalies in a fifteen-year-old boy. At the Clinic for Neurology, a modern multidisciplinary method in the treatment of stroke was performed for the first time - mechanical thrombectomy," said Eraković. .

He reminded that the doctors of the Clinic for Eye Diseases introduced a new procedure for operative treatment of the posterior segment of the eye - vitrectomy, while the Laboratory for HLA Typing was opened in the premises of the Institute for Blood Transfusion, which represents a turning point in the further development of the transplant program in Montenegro.

According to Eraković, demanding and serious operations on the spinal column have begun to be performed at the Orthopedic Clinic, while the stereotaxic radiotherapy technique of brain tumor irradiation has been successfully applied on the new linear accelerator, which enables cancer patients to be irradiated very accurately and efficiently. they treat tumor changes, while healthy tissue is maximally spared.

He adds, the application of the telemedicine project has begun, which in the first phase connected KCCG with general hospitals in Berane, Bar and Pljevlje, so that doctors can immediately send diagnostic findings made in regional centers to a single database, while respecting all health regulations. norms in the exchange of personal data of patients.

"The goal of KCCG is that in the coming period, by adopting and applying new knowledge, we will perform the most modern and demanding surgical procedures and therapeutic procedures, which recommends our institution to become a renowned regional center, which is capable of providing health services, not only to Montenegrin insured persons, but also to patients from environment and beyond," said Erakovic.

When it comes to staff, Eraković pointed out that there are visible changes, that is, that the number of specialist and subspecialist doctors has increased.

"During the last year, 44 doctors specialized, and seven of them completed narrow specialization. We also hired a certain number of doctors from the region, among them eminent experts in the field of pediatric neurology and interventional radiology, who will significantly contribute to the quality of health care for patients from in this area, and therefore to save financial resources, since earlier patients were referred for treatment outside of Montenegro", said the director of KCCG.

According to him, a certain number of doctors from the private sector continued their work engagement in KCCG, and young specialist doctors who obtained their professional degrees at universities across Europe expressed their interest in working in the largest health institution.

"Our personnel capacities are getting stronger day by day and a larger number of doctors have established a working relationship at KCCG during the past year compared to the number of doctors who have left our health care facility," Eraković pointed out.

He said that staff reinforcements are needed in some segments and that 24 specializations and 18 narrower specializations are planned for this year.

"We manage to maintain the continuity of health services and make up for the lack of that staff. Considering the large number of specializations, I am sure that we will quickly make up for those shortcomings," said Eraković.
