The Media Association of Southeast Europe (MAJE) strongly condemns the arrest and detention of journalists Gojko Raičević from the IN4S portal and Dražen Živković from the Borba portal for publishing inaccurate news, which they themselves later denied.

"The detention of Raičević and Živković is the second case of the arrest of journalists in Montenegro, within just one week, on suspicion of the criminal offense of causing panic and disorder. This is a worrying practice that is unknown in democratic countries. Prosecutorial and police repression of journalists is inadmissible and it is an introduction to state media censorship".

From MAJA, they once again call on the institutions to use the legal mechanisms available to them in the event that a media outlet publishes incorrect news, and to urgently stop the detention and persecution of journalists in Montenegro.
