The Institute for Public Health of Montenegro has started an epidemiological investigation of a case of suspected infection with the new coronavirus.
The IJZ emphasizes "that the current symptoms do not indicate an illness".
"Based on the collected data, it is a Montenegrin citizen, a passenger in international traffic, who arrived from China the day before and who, during the implementation of epidemiological surveillance, reported symptoms of a respiratory infection of the lower respiratory tract to the competent epidemiologist - mild cough, no high body temperature with radiological a finding that may indicate unilateral pneumonia. Due to the aforementioned complaints, the patient was placed and isolated at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases of the Clinical Center of Montenegro," the announcement states.
They state that the patient has been a traveler for the past year and that he stayed in the Chinese city of Shenzhen until February 5, where 1.034 laboratory-confirmed cases and only one death have been registered in the entire province.
"He denies visits to health institutions as well as any contact with sick people. He took care of prevention and health protection with regular and strict adherence to the measures recommended by the Chinese health authorities, and it is unlikely that he was exposed to the virus. At the same time, other elements of the travel history and of stay indicate the possibility of another reason for health problems. Based on all the collected data, the probability that it is an infection with the new coronavirus is small, but in accordance with the protocols, the epidemiological services have started an active search for all contacts so that they are identified in a timely manner and available for the implementation of measures infection control," the IJZ points out.
They add that, like the previous time, this situation "is neither unusual nor unexpected given the development of events in the world and the spread of the 2019-nCoV infection in countries outside of China".
"The situation regarding the condition of the patient as well as the epidemiological situation in the country and the world will be intensively monitored, and the public will be informed about it in a timely manner", announced the IJZ.
