Postmen from Nikšić claim that these days they perform their work without protective equipment and appeal to the authorities to provide them with protective masks and gloves because they are in daily contact with a large number of citizens, thus endangering themselves and others.
"Since March 15, we have received three pairs of gloves and two masks. The gloves are small, so almost none of us can use them. We visit 200 houses a day. "Some people won't even let us go, they resent the fact that we don't have protective equipment, and we can't buy it, because it's nowhere to be found," postmen in Nikšić told "Vijesta".
Since the emergence of the coronavirus, they claim, they also have additional work because they carry accounts that were previously handled by workers in other services.
"We work as we did before the corona virus, only these days we have additional work because everyone has protected their workers, sent them home, and we are responsible for everything. There are about twenty of us postmen and each of us is in charge of over a thousand households," they said.
The management of the post office points out that the claims of their employees are not true and that they have taken all necessary measures to protect employees and their family members, as well as citizens.
"We distributed all the masks and gloves we had to the employees. We also received masks and gloves from three times and gave them to the workers, and a new quantity was ordered. We have warned all employees that they must maintain social distance and use protective equipment", they told "Vijesta" from the post office.
As they explained, they have 24 postmen, and three couriers are hired for express services.
"Business in the area of letters and mail has dropped by 70 percent, and the express service is burdened because citizens now trade a lot online. As far as postmen are concerned, they carry all the bills that arrive at once, around the 15th of the month, and there is also the distribution of pensions, around the 20th, so these are the days when they visit citizens. "Every day we try to protect our workers, their families and citizens, so the story about their insecurity is not true," the post office claims.
