The Ministry of Defense will suspend further afforestation in the area of Sinjajevina, and the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism has offered assistance for joint activities, which will contribute to the protection of the existing ecosystem of pastures and meadows in the area.
This, among other things, is stated in MORT's response to the initiative of the Center for the Protection and Study of Birds (CZIP) to consider the justification of the afforestation action in Sinjajevina.
At the end of November last year, the department of Predrag Bošković organized an afforestation campaign in Sinjajevina with 3.000 spruce and pine seedlings at the location of Savina voda, where the formation of a training and shooting range is also planned. It was announced that the plan is to plant 100.000 seedlings.
At the end of December, CZIP directed MORT and the Agency for Nature and Environmental Protection to take the necessary measures to prevent the implementation of such a plan.
"The action, which was organized in cooperation with the Forestry Administration, was not foreseen in the afforestation plan, nor is it justified from an environmental point of view. Afforestation needs to be carried out in priority locations, such as those that have been burned or devastated by excessive logging," said the CZIP, among other things.
