The non-governmental organization "Friends of Animals Podgorica" ​​appealed to urgently build a cemetery for pets in the capital.

They remind that they submitted the initiative to the capital a year ago.

"The said Initiative was then supported by a huge number of our fellow citizens, and how could it not be, when almost half of the households in the capital have a pet, and therefore a big problem after it dies. And not only that, the improper burial of pets in parks and public areas is a danger due to the spread of infection. Of course, the mentioned project would be financially self-sustainable through the sale and charging of the maintenance of grave plots, and therefore the capital city would not have large costs," said the executive director of the NGO "Friends of Animals Podgorica" ​​Dragoje Vlahovic.

He points out that they expected to find support from the Capital City.

"Due to all of the above, but also due to the fact that Podgorica has become a member of the Green Cities of Europe, and that it is one of the few capital cities in the same, which does not have a cemetery for pets, we expected that the Initiative would be supported by the Capital City, and that However, to our as well as to the surprise of many of our fellow citizens, the officials of the Capital City in this matter failed to do anything more than submitting a request to amend the Detailed Urban Plan, in order to determine the location for construction. cemeteries. So, without a precise date of the start and end of the works and any other details. If it took a year to send an initiative to change the urban plan, then one can guess that the project will have to wait for many more years, which is unacceptable. Therefore, on behalf of the non-governmental organization Friends of Animals Podgorica, but, I can freely say, on behalf of the majority of the citizens of Podgorica, I am addressing Mayor Ivan Vuković directly with requests to speed up the process as much as possible, so that Podgorica will get a cemetery for pets within the next year at the latest," he says. The reason for the delay, as he said, should not be sought in administrative obstacles, because if someone wants to do something, then they will find a way.

"I would like to note that this is not about any whim, but about an elementary need, and we most sincerely hope that the people who have received the trust of the citizens to lead Podgorica will listen to the most basic needs of their fellow citizens. So, Mr. Vuković, it is just like you and it is clear to me that our fellow citizens are not interested in plans and promises, but only in the final product, and therefore, in a friendly tone, I am asking you to begin the implementation of the project without delay. of this project, but for everything that will benefit our fellow citizens, and concerns the welfare and protection of animals," concluded Vlahović.
