The President of the Berane Municipal Assembly Novica Obradović (Democrats) strongly condemned the recent arrest of Bishop Joaniki of Budimlja-Niššić together with the clergy, as well as "the scenes of police violence against citizens that we witnessed last night".
"These are events that the whole of Montenegro is ashamed of. I call the citizens of Beran, but also the whole of Montenegro, for peace, as the clergy did before me, including Bishop Joaniki, who was arrested," said Obradović.
He called on members of the police to exercise restraint and prudence "because we need cool heads the most in this period of heightened tensions."
"That's why I appeal for reasonable and responsible behavior so that we don't allow the peace in the territory of Montenegro to be endangered. For the same purpose, as a gesture of re-establishing normalcy, I appeal to immediately release the bishop of Budimljansko-Niššić, Joanikije, along with all the priests," said the president of the SO Berane.
