The State Prosecutor's Office, as an independent and unique state body, does not "persecut" anyone, on the contrary, it strives to protect every citizen with all its capacities and contribute to the protection of human rights and basic freedoms, announced the president of the Association of Prosecutors, Veselin Vučković.
The Association of Prosecutors reacted "due to the frequent media attacks on state prosecutors" announcing that they condemn it in the strongest terms.
"The law stipulates that the work of the State Prosecutor's Office may not be carried out under anyone's influence and no one may influence the State Prosecutor's Office in the performance of its work, and that the function of the State Prosecutor is performed impartially and objectively, on the principles of legality and equality before the law. Association of State Prosecutors of Prosecutors of Montenegro, in accordance with its statutory powers, strongly condemns media attacks on state prosecutors and their decisions. We note that the law prescribes that the work of the State Prosecutor's Office may not be carried out under anyone's influence and no one may influence the State Prosecutor's Office in the performance of its work, and that the function of the state prosecutor is carried out impartially and objectively, based on the principles of legality and equality before the law," the announcement reads.
They pointed out that the attacks on the state prosecutors because of specific decisions made are nothing more than an attempt to pressure "as evidenced by the recent texts published by certain media".
"The Association of State Prosecutors of Montenegro therefore says that all these attempts will be unsuccessful because in the State Prosecutor's Office decisions are made exclusively in accordance with legal powers, based on the Constitution and legal regulations. The Association of State Prosecutors supports and at the same time affirms the public's right to justified criticism of the State Prosecutor's Office but notes that there is a big difference between criticism and insults expressed in a down-to-earth way. On this occasion, we emphasize that the State Prosecutor's Office, as an independent and unique state body, does not "persecut" anyone, but on the contrary, strives with all its capacities to protect every citizen and contribute to the protection of human rights and basic freedoms. We believe that the actions of state prosecutors must not be the subject of unfounded attacks through certain media portals. We use this opportunity to, as we have done several times before, express our concern about unfounded and untrue accusations against state prosecutors, but also to send support to our colleagues who, during the corona virus pandemic, daily perform complex prosecutorial activities aimed at protecting the population from infectious diseases".
