The Ministry of Sports and Youth and the Student Sports Association will allocate eight thousand euros for scholarships to the eight most successful athletes in student sports, the government department announced.
It is stated that the scholarship winners are Miloš Jelovac, Marko Koprivica, Nikola Veljović, Jovana Marić, Mia Roganović, Matija Bulatović, Miloš Vukčević and Novo Raičević.
Minister Nikola Janović said that the department he heads increases the number of scholarship holders and the funds allocated by the state for these purposes year after year.
"Specifically, through this initiative, we aim to further affirm student sports and give students an even greater motivation to engage in it. Students represent an important resource of our country, and it is important to note that with this initiative we are reacting twice, because on the one hand we take care of young people, and on the other hand we are expanding the base of our athletes", said Janović.
It was announced that the Student Sports Association, which applied to the Ministry of Sports and Youth for scholarships, wants to confirm its mission, which is a quality combination of higher education and sports activities.
"Last year, 1.700 students participated in our competitions and organized activities, and eight of them received scholarships based on the exceptional results they showed as athletes and students," said the president of the Student Sports Association, Ivica Todorović.
The Ministry of Sports and Youth, in 2020 alone, awarded scholarships to over 300 athletes and allocated over 400 euros for these purposes.
That is 30 percent more than the previous year.
In 2018, for the first time in the Montenegrin sports system, the Ministry introduced the obligation to provide scholarships to athletes, and for over 700 athletes, allocated about one million euros in three years.
