The gradual opening of borders for tourists can be expected in June, and there is still optimism for the next year, although there is a certain drop in income from this tourist season, it was announced at the virtual event "Hosting international tourists - when and how".
The event was organized by the American Chambers of Commerce of Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia and Greece.
As announced by the American Chamber of Commerce in Montenegro (AmCham), state representatives expect a drop in income in the tourism sector to be up to 40 percent, while representatives of the business sector believe that the drop could be up to 60 percent.
"We can expect better results, the interlocutors assure, in 2021. All the countries participating in the panel had an excellent tourist season last year, so they hope that such revenues, if not more, can be achieved in 2022," says the announcement.
It is stated that representatives of Slovenia believe, however, that it will take them three to five years to repeat that success.
At the event, the financial packages of measures adopted by the countries were presented in order to mitigate the consequences of the COVID 19 virus pandemic on the economic situation, save jobs and provide assistance to businessmen.
In this context, the state secretary in the Ministry of Tourism of Montenegro, Damir Davidović, announced the adoption of a new set of measures, i.e. the third package, which the government will present next week.
The participants, as announced by the Chamber, agreed that closer cooperation of the region and exchange of experiences and information is necessary, because this is the only way to tackle the pandemic and become a safe tourist destination with joint efforts.
They assessed that, although many countries will rely on domestic tourism, it is not enough to ensure the growth and development of tourism.
"All the strategies that the executive authorities have adopted so far have proven to be very effective, but the circumstances caused by the pandemic are extremely fluid and require the competent services to constantly adapt to new conditions," the statement says.
Representatives of the business sector said that they are waiting for official instructions from the executive authorities, especially health institutions, in the form of final procedures, i.e. necessary hygiene conditions and procedures, especially in light of the announcement of the opening of borders.
As they said, they expect a smaller number of tourists this year, so it will be easier to comply with all the necessary steps.
"They are currently working on the digitization of the services they offer to the greatest extent possible, in order to meet the expectations of tourists, in the form of ensuring all health standards and protocols, but also to protect the employees themselves who will perform the services," the statement added.
