In the first days of June, Montenegro will open its borders to those countries that meet the epidemiological criteria of the Institute for Public Health.
Prime Minister Duško Marković said this at the press conference.
He explained that the borders will be opened for those countries where the number of infected people is 25 or less per 100.000 inhabitants.
"The first countries are Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Albania, Greece," said Marković.
He announced that the intention is to open kindergartens, playrooms, cinemas and theaters from next week.
"Weddings, baptisms, a limited number of spectators at sports events will be allowed, with appropriate measures," said Marković.
"We didn't scramble for respirators, we stopped the virus at the border"
He also said that Montenegro "didn't run out for ventilators", and that there are more than enough of them.
"We have provided enough medical equipment. We have decided to stop the virus at the borders of Montenegro. Today, Montenegro has equipment and resources that can be envied by even the most developed health systems," noted Marković.
He reminded that after 68 days after the first registered case, Montenegro has no patients with coronavirus.
"We won the battle with such a vicious virus and Montenegro became the first corona-free country in Europe. This is a joint victory and I congratulate everyone who was on the front line of defense," said Prime Minister Duško Marković.
He thanked the doctors, nurses and technicians, pharmacists and all healthcare workers, members of the police, security services and the army...
"We wanted to have citizens with us, not against us"
Marković also said that "there is no decision that we did not make, but we should have made it".
"The most important decisions in relation to the pandemic is the visionary approach of the health system and the people at the Institute for Public Health. They gave us recommendations two months before we received the first case in Montenegro. Another important decision was the closing of the borders. We are brave and determined made that decision knowing that it will be the basis of our behavior in order to resist the epidemic. And third - the organization of quarantine and self-isolation. I think we are the only country that made such an organization of quarantine and self-isolation. We did not allow imported cases to spread to us. We protected to the greatest extent our citizens'', said Marković.
He reminded that Montenegro is one of the rare countries that did not introduce a state of emergency, that did not even have an hour of curfew...
"I certainly would not propose a state of emergency. There were talks about it and proposals that came from the political competition. Our vision was that this is a battle for health that we can win together with the citizens and not against the citizens. We wanted to have the citizens with to us, not against us. That has proven to be a formula for success. We are one of the few countries that has not imposed a state of emergency, that has not had an hour of curfew and maximum freedom. Only one Sunday we had a weekend restriction of 13:5 to XNUMX:XNUMX in the morning '', Marković reminded.
The Prime Minister began today's presentation by removing his mask.
"Since we are a corona-free destination, let me take off my mask," said Marković at the beginning of the press conference.
Since the beginning of the epidemic in Montenegro, 324 people have fallen ill with the coronavirus, 315 of them have recovered, while nine patients have died.
Montenegro became the first country in Europe without active cases of coronavirus.
