Boban Stanišić, a member of the Municipal Board of the Movement for Change, assessed that the only solution to the lack of parking spaces in the city is the construction of underground garages.
"First of all, it is necessary to do a detailed analysis of the traffic, so after that they would have a clear picture of which locations would be ideal for the construction of these garages. The construction of underground garages would be the beginning of the strategy of turning the center and part of Preko Morača into a pedestrian zone," said Stanišić.
He assessed that parking space is one of the scarcer resources in Podgorica.
He pointed out that as time passes, there will be an even bigger problem with parking in Podgorica.
"The parking problem is unsolvable for this incompetent city government, but that's why it represents a generous source of supplementary income through fines for parking in "illegal" places, with which they fill their budget and their pockets at the expense of citizens who live mostly on the poverty line anyway." said Stanišić.
He pointed out that due to the lack of parking spaces, the citizens of Podgorica are forced to park their cars in places that are not intended for that.
He also explained that in this way citizens endanger the safety of other road users.
"It is also a common case that due to the lack of free parking space, citizens park their cars on green areas, which devastates and destroys the small number of green areas that Podgorica has," says Stanišić.
He emphasized that parking on sidewalks and green areas due to the overcrowding of parking lots, both free and paid, has unfortunately become an everyday occurrence in Podgorica.
