Today, when our flags are flying all over the world and when we are proud of everything we have achieved during the entire decade of movement in our country, we cannot help but remember that many of us still live in isolation, fear of violence and numerous problems in everyday life, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) LGBT Forum Progres, LGBTIQ Socijalni Centar and Hiperion announced today.
"June has been chosen as LGBTIQ Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which took place on June 28, 1969, and which started a process of change for the human rights and social position of LGBTIQ people around the world. This month we gather in unity, solidarity and friendship, and Pride Month is also the right time to look back at the obstacles that the LGBTIQ community in Montenegro has successfully overcome and those it still faces," the press release, signed by Bojana Jokić from the LGBT Forum Progres, John M Barac from the LGBTIQ Social Center and Ksenija Rakočević from Hyperion.
The announcement adds that Pride Month teaches acceptance of diversity.
"Through this month's celebration, we are not only fighting for equality and human rights, but also for freedom of choice, love, education reform, same-sex partnerships and proud freedom. As a result, there are many pride events taking place during this month that recognize the impact of LGBTIQ people had the whole world," said the NGO, LGBT Forum Progress, LGBTIQ Social Center and Hiperion.
They also said that they will mark the month of pride with various activities and events.
"We invite all those interested to look for information about the same in the coming days on the social networks of non-governmental organizations LGBT Forum Progres and LGBTIQ Social Center. A free life begins with pride," the announcement concludes.
