"Brodarevo" also threatens Montenegro

The Government of Serbia has restarted the process of building hydroelectric power plants on the Lim in the town of Brodarevo, which is why citizens' associations from Bijelo Polje, Prijepolje and Brodarevo, who believe that this would cause enormous damage to the environment and people, are asking for an urgent response from the competent authorities in Montenegro and again are preparing to defend the river.

The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Government of Serbia has restarted the process of building hydroelectric power plants on the Lim in Brodarevo, which borders Montenegro, under the names Brodarevo 1 and Brodarevo 2. special purposes of hydropower plants and the Report on the strategic assessment of the impact of the Spatial Plan on the environment.

"Associations from Prijepolje, Brodarevo and Bijelo Polje have already agreed to join the citizens in joint defense of Lim and take over all legal mechanisms to prevent the construction of those hydroelectric plants", they said on behalf of several associations from the NGO "Euromost".

They recalled that the Administrative Court had already annulled the previous energy permit given to the Canadian company REV for the construction of those hydro plants. The court then decided in favor of the non-governmental organizations that filed lawsuits against the investors, due to the illegality of the activities of the Canadian company.

"After the reaction of the Montenegrin civil sector, Montenegro joined the dispute, which, as it stated at the time, was not informed about the activities undertaken regarding the plans for the construction of those facilities. It was also disputed that none of the Montenegrin officials participated in the public debates that were held during the previous years. It is obvious that someone remembered that now that the corona is current and that the relations between these two countries have worsened, to use it to restart the procedure for the construction of hydroelectric power plants in Brodarevo, which would also threaten Montenegrin territory".

"Euromost" has already informed the Municipality of Bijelo Polje about the new situation and requested that they immediately join the entire procedure, which they expect from the Government of Montenegro and the Ministry for Sustainable Development and Tourism.
