The Ministry for Human and Minority Rights appealed to citizens to inform the competent institutions in case of any information about potential neglect or violence against a child.
The department announced that violence against children is one of the most serious forms of human rights violations.
"Montenegrin society should react in the direction of full protection of the child from any form of violence and neglect by parents or other persons," said the Ministry.
They reminded that all children are born with the basic freedoms and rights that belong to all human beings and that due to their age they are referred to the help of adults.
"In this regard, we emphasize the obligation of adults in terms of child protection, i.e. the need to protect the integrity of the child," the Ministry stated.
They recalled that the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, as the most important international legal act, stipulates that every child has the right to life.
"The recent case of the murder of a fifteen-month-old boy reminds us all that we should think deeply about the extent to which our children are really protected and how many of them enjoy their rights," the Ministry concluded.
