Government and Municipality of Budva: Urgent financial consolidation of the Municipality is a basic prerequisite for its further development and functioning

Representatives of the Government and Nikola Divanović, who was elected by the new municipal majority as mayor of Budva, concluded today that urgent financial consolidation of the Municipality is a basic prerequisite for its further development and functioning, given the fact that the previous government did not resolve the accumulated debt of tens of millions of euros.

"The government, confirming its principled approach to every local self-government, regardless of who is in power, expresses its readiness to issue a new guarantee for a financial arrangement that would mean the recovery of the public finances of the Municipality of Budva and the solution to this problem," said the Deputy Prime Minister for economic policy Milutin Simović.

The Government announced that Divanović welcomed the Government's readiness.

"The municipality of Budva needs responsibility, order and work, that's why I'm in the government today. I am sure that in constructive communication with the Government, we will find solutions in order to unblock the municipal account, pay wages, recover finances and overcome the difficult financial situation in which I found the municipal coffers," Nikola Divanović said at the meeting.

Vice President Simović assessed the need for the Government and the Municipality of Budva to overcome inherited challenges as soon as possible, reinforced by the fact that this year's tourist season has been affected by the coronavirus pandemic all over the world.

"We are witnessing a difficult situation in tourism this summer around the world. That is why every day of the tourist season, every tourist, every tourist capacity and every job in tourism are precious to us. That is why we are making every effort to provide conditions for the smooth functioning of local self-government," said the Deputy Prime Minister.

At the meeting, which was attended on behalf of the Government by the Ministers of Finance and Public Administration, Darko Radunović and Suzana Pribilović, and the Directors General of the State Budget and State Treasury Directorates, Bojan Paunović and Dragan Darmanović.
