The Red Cross of Montenegro (CKCG) has completed the implementation of the project, which was aimed at remediating the humanitarian consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, the organization announced, stating that eight thousand humanitarian packages were distributed throughout Montenegro.
The CKCG stated that the three-month project "Providing humanitarian support to the population socially threatened by the Covid 19 pandemic in Montenegro" was supported by the Government of Switzerland, and its total value was almost 190 thousand euros.
"The support included four thousand families from all Montenegrin municipalities, who received help in food and hygiene packages through the municipal organizations of the CKMG. In this way, a total of eight thousand humanitarian packages were distributed," the statement said.
The General Secretary of the CKCG Jelena Dubak said that the support of the Swiss Government helped them a lot to respond to the numerous requests they received from their users, which during the epidemic were drastically more than in regular circumstances.
She stated that she hoped that in this way they managed to alleviate their social vulnerability and to a certain extent improve the quality of life, which was the goal of the project.
"This help arrived at a time when it was most needed, so we are especially grateful to the Government of Switzerland and its representatives with whom we had a very good cooperation and who properly understood the needs of our citizens," added Dubak.
She said that CKCG continues with activities and distribution of aid to the most vulnerable.
"But we hope that the biggest humanitarian challenges when it comes to the coronavirus are behind us," Dubak said.
She reminded that since the beginning of the epidemic, the CKCG has distributed aid to around 38 socially most vulnerable families, who received a total of more than 55 humanitarian aid packages.
"The support of the Government of Switzerland was realized in cooperation with the Operational Headquarters for the Management of Donations of the National Coordinating Body and the Government of Montenegro," the statement added.
