Photos were sent to the news today that show how San Giovanni hill above Kotor looks like today.
That hill was engulfed in fire last night, which was caused by a torchlight on the ramparts of Kotor, which was held on the occasion of Montenegro's Statehood Day.
Kotor firefighters extinguished the fire after several hours of fighting.
The ramparts of Kotor have been under UNESCO protection since 2017.
In this area is also the bastion of St. Roko and the Church of Our Lady of Health, and the St. Ivan fortress. This area is of exceptional cultural importance for Montenegro.
A torchlight was organized in that part of Kotor last night, so the fire burned from the top of San Giovanni to the city's waterfront.
