The Executive Director of the NGO Ecological Society Breznica, Milorad Mitrović, called on the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Milutin Simović, to make a decision to completely ban hunting in Montenegro for a period of at least two years, following the example of Albania, in order to protect wild game from extermination.
He claims that it is known who was poaching in the area of Kosanica when the roe deer was shot, as well as that it is known who is the owner of the hunting dogs that "mutilated" the wounded animal.
"It is almost impossible to bear witness to all the wrongdoings and crimes that have been committed in recent years and that are still being committed by irresponsible individuals, which are obviously increasing day by day. The last example of massacre and survival of exhausted and wounded game protected by law in the town of Kosanica, near Pljevlja, is just a continuation of the criminal activities of individual members of hunting societies and shows the true image of the ecological state and the hypocrites of those responsible for this completely chaotic situation in the field of hunting," said Mitrović.
He was reacting to the information that veterinarians in a Pljeval clinic put to sleep a four-year-old roe deer, which was brought in with injuries from hunting firearms and injuries from dog bites.
"There were two hunting dogs on him who butchered him alive, and then fled into the forest. There are also photos of the dogs from the scene with the authorities in the hunting organization, but also with the police in Pljevlja. After the escalation of poaching throughout Montenegro in recent years ( beheading of roe deer on Golija, dismemberment of a live roe deer by hunting teams in Gusino brdo, killing of chamois in the Tara canyon, abusing a wounded roe deer in Kosanica, etc.) the least we expect from the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Milutin Simović, is to respond urgently to the latest case of poaching, to take away the management of the hunting ground, initiate criminal and other proceedings against all those who have abused their position for the sake of personal interests and who, by their actions or inactions, cause irreparable and irreparable damage to Montenegro and its citizens," said Mitrović.
He added that during the ban on hunting, the area of hunting and game management should be completely and adequately regulated, and minimum conditions for the application of European regulations and standards should be provided.
"If you are not capable of doing that, resign from the position you occupy in that department. Regarding the latest case of poaching in the town of Kosanica, we are asking the ODT Pljevlja, CB Pljevlja to announce to the public the names of the perpetrators of injuring and surviving the wounded roe deer, because we know that it is known who was poaching that day in that area, as is also known who is the owner of the hunting dogs that "tore" the wounded animal, next to the road Kosanica - Paćevina. For years, we have been pointing out complete lawlessness and abuses in the area of hunting in Montenegro It is burning and we are trying to draw the public's attention to the destruction of wild game throughout Montenegro, but apparently in vain. And while we are fighting against such crimes, in the meantime, many animal species have disappeared due to uncontrolled shooting or after catastrophic fires, where habitats have been decimated numerous plant and animal species. A number of wild animals, which are on the European Red List of endangered species and whose population has been reduced to a biological minimum, have disappeared from our territory thanks to uncontrolled poaching and wanton killing by unscrupulous members of (poaching) gangs".
Mitrović said that they will be forced to organize a humanitarian campaign to collect funds for the purchase of fresh meat and to provide and finance five to ten kilograms of meat to "obviously hungry poachers, which we intend to distribute through the "Hranilice za lovce - butcher" project. , so that in return they would stop killing, torturing and abusing animals which, according to our current legislation, are protected by law in every place and at all times".
Mitrović stated, among other things, that he will request a ban on the import of hunting weapons into Montenegro "until the situation in the field of hunting and game, whose population has been brought to the brink of extermination and complete biological disappearance, is normalized."
