Residents of Rakita protested against the construction of the "Čelinska Kosa" landfill.

On the slopes of Bjelasica, at the location Čelinjska kosa-Đurđevica, where the construction of a regional landfill for 11 northern municipalities is planned, a protest meeting of the villagers of Rakita was held yesterday.

One of the organizers, who with a group of like-minded people supported the coalition for the future of Montenegro, a resident of Ravna Rijeka, former opposition member Slavko Fuštić, recalled that the local administration of BIjelo Polje is planning to build a regional landfill for the north, as well as a landfill for animal waste for the whole of Montenegro. Burning.

"And all this between two ski resorts, which are being built between the Mojkovac and Bjelapolje sides of Bjelasica, at a distance of 500 meters as the crow flies from both ski resorts," said Fuštić.

He said that all those who vote for the Democratic Party of Socialists vote for the construction of this landfill.

Citizens warn that under that location there is a huge number of sources of clean mountain water, which form the source of the Čelinska river, which flows into Ljuboviđa, this into Lim, which would pollute the entire watercourse downstream to the Drina.

They remind that when some organic waste reaches the river, it takes 80 kilometers of natural water to purify it naturally. And they call on organizations dealing with environmental protection to get involved in the defense of the Bjelasica mountain, which would be followed by an ecological disaster.

Gojko Nedović from Ravna Rijeka said that the location is 1.000 meters above sea level, and that nearby is the source of Bistrica, which is 800 meters above sea level and supplies Bijelo Polje with drinking water, and nearby is the village of Rakita, where people exclusively the production of berry fruits, mostly organic, as well as the production of meat and dairy products", said Nedović, adding that all this will affect the valorization of tourism, in which millions of euros are invested.

By the decision of the Government of Montenegro on making changes and additions to the local study of the solid waste landfill Čelinska kosa covers an area of ​​234.180,60 square meters.

The locals remind that the landfill is planned to be formed in the town of Đurđevica, and not, as the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism says, in Čelinska Kosa. That place is above the village of Rakita, on the slopes of the mountain Bjelasica and belongs to the local community of Ravna Rijeka.

The location "Čelinska kosa" is about 15 kilometers from Bijelo Polje, of which 11 kilometers is the section of the main road Bijelo Polje - Mojkovac, while about four kilometers is the access road to the location itself. It is located about a kilometer south of the village of Lisičine and a kilometer southwest of the village of Gornja Rakita.
