"Although the fear of change is understandable, especially among minority communities and marginalized groups, the change of government remains one of the principles of democracy and, as such, can be a significant opportunity to change certain negative approaches and principles of state leadership and the improvement of society as a whole. Montenegrin LGBTIQ community , although the community, which shares certain similarities, is also different on many issues, and it is understandable that certain members of the community view the change of government through the prism of fear of change in the context of respect for the human rights of LGBTIQ persons," the statement signed by Bojana Jokić, president of the Board of Directors, emphasizes (UO) LGBT Forum Progress.
The statement adds that it is important to remind the public that the part of the community that went to the protests in 2016, litias, as well as numerous other civic gatherings, expressing solidarity with a significant part of the public, was accepted by those gathered and thus significantly increased acceptance of the LGBTIQ community in Montenegro.
"The Montenegrin LGBTIQ community, like all other citizens of this country, is characterized by differences in economic status, religious beliefs and many attitudes. But these differences must be seen as the value and strength of one society and must not be a reason for hatred and additional divisions in such demanding social times. Finally, it is particularly important to point out that the messages of the new political leaders are encouraging, although they do not explicitly mention the LGBTIQ community, they extend their hands to all minority peoples and communities to actively participate in public and political life and decision-making processes," the statement reads. They said that they appreciate that at this moment it is necessary to listen to the advice of political leaders in terms of staying at home and avoiding public expressions of celebration, because, as they say, it is important not to create additional divisions.
