Patients suffering from diabetes claim that in the last ten days, there are no blood sugar measuring devices in pharmacies, which they buy together with the strips with the prescription of the chosen doctor.
Several of them confirmed that the devices were changed, that they were allegedly not informed about it, but also that they could not get them during the past, but not even at the beginning of this week, in the state-owned, otherwise well-stocked pharmacies.
The pharmacy institution "Montefarm" replied to "Vijesta" that the stock is being replenished and that they are trying to deliver the devices to their pharmacies as soon as possible.
They said that from the beginning of August until yesterday, 2 On-Call-Plus devices were delivered from the Montefarma warehouse to pharmacies in all municipalities in Montenegro.
"Montefarm procures and distributes On-Call-Plus devices and strips for measuring blood glucose levels. They are issued at the expense of the Montenegrin Health Fund, that is, patients who need it pick up the mentioned devices and strips in our pharmacies on a prescription prescribed by the chosen doctor", explained the institution.
"Montefarm" pointed out that the replenishment of the stock of pharmacies that issued prescription devices to patients is underway, with the fact that in the coming period, smaller quantities will be delivered, which will be rationally distributed among municipalities and larger pharmacies.
"Such a delivery trend will continue until our wholesaler receives a larger quantity. "Montefarm strives to deliver the necessary devices as soon as possible so that every patient can realize his right to a free meter and strips," the answer reads.
Montenegro is at the very top of Europe in terms of the number of people suffering from diabetes, just behind Turkey, and diabetes is diagnosed in 3.000 patients annually. About 200 children are treated for diabetes in Montenegro.
