The Government of Montenegro accepted the proposal to change the purpose of the location of Kopit (Small Camp) to Kolašin, and to designate it as a "prospective location for use by the Army".
In the explanation, it is stated that this location, with an area of 14.784 square meters, is the property of the state, and that in the strategic documents, which define the area for defense purposes, it is defined as a non-promising location.
"With the entry of Montenegro into NATO, the Ministry of Defense and the Army of Montenegro need to provide adequate space that will be used for the implementation of Army exercises, which are necessary in order for the members of the Army to improve their skills in accordance with the requirements of allied and partner forces," the proposal reads. was accepted by the government.
They remind that from May 17 to June 2, 2021, the implementation of the "Immediate Response 21" exercise is planned in Montenegro, in which, in addition to members of the Montenegrin Army, members of the US armed forces will also participate.
"Taking into account the fact that the Army of Montenegro needs to use the former military warehouse "Kopita (Small camp)" in Kolašin, it is necessary to start a procedure in order to determine the aforementioned location in the strategic document Long-term Defense Development Plan 2019-2028 as a perspective location for use by the Army", the proposal reads.
By the DUP "Breza" Kopita has been designated as an area for tourism. It is also foreseen that the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism undertakes to designate the location as an area for defense purposes when preparing the PUP for the municipality of Kolašin. The Ministry of Defense also asked the Ministry of Finance for an opinion on this.
