Green Home and the Center for the Protection and Study of Birds (CZIP) filed criminal charges against one person on suspicion of committing a criminal act, illegal fishing.
"On the social network Facebook "Let's support local - Let's support small producers in Montenegro", photos of freshly caught small and large eel from Lake Skadar, which are openly offered on the market, and during the period of the fishing ban on eel, were published. , hunting season and the minimum sizes of fish and other aquatic organisms below which fishing is prohibited, the hunting season for eel has been determined in the period from September 1 to December 1, and it is precisely in this period that it is necessary to tighten the control of poaching", according to the statement of Green Home and CZIP.
They add that in the area of poaching, a high level of criminality has been reached, and that there is an urgent need to strengthen game wardens, inspection and police services.
"We remind the supervisory authorities that they are obliged to pay special attention to supervision and control, not only on the ground, but also on commercial groups of social networks, so that such crimes do not repeat themselves. We also appeal to citizens to take care of the natural wealth that imam behave responsibly, to comply with the laws and regulations concerning the hunting ban".
Green Home and CZIP say that if such cases are not urgently prosecuted, the repetition of such criminal acts is inevitable, which will lead to a significant decrease in the population of this species in Lake Skadar, and the withdrawal of responsibility when it comes to the process of Montenegro's accession to the European Union.
"The eel is an important species, not only from the point of view of biology, but also economically important. On the other hand, it is very endangered and is on the IUCN red list of endangered species, it is on Annex III of the Barcelona Convention, which is why it is strictly regulated The directive on eel, and there are recommendations from the European Union, for its constant monitoring. This especially applies to the migratory period when the eel moves to the Sargasso Sea for spawning."
