The Ulcinj Committee of the Citizens' Movement URA announced that Ada Island and part of Velika plaža, as the most valuable resources of the Ulcinj municipality, are threatened.
"The Government of Montenegro, i.e. the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Water Administration and the Marine Department are active participants in the accelerated disappearance of Ada Bojana and the surrounding beaches at the mouth with their unprofessional works, without any studies. In this way, the huge development resources of the municipality of Ulcinj are put at risk , but also the property of HTP Ulcinjska Riviera", announced from Ulcinj URA.
As this party points out, the citizens of Ulcinj are used to the Government of Crane Gore and the Public Company for the Management of Marine Assets being silent observers of various devastations of natural resources.
"Such was the case with Solana, Valdanos, Port Milena and others, but also with economic discrimination, such as, for example, with privatization processes or capital investments. However, this is now, after all, something new", notes the Ulcinj board of the URA- e.
The URA from Ulcinj sent a series of questions to the institutions.
"We want to publicly ask these institutions whether they are aware and whether they are doing what they are doing on the basis of professional studies? How much have the works being carried out cost so far, which probably have an impact on the disappearance of beaches? Why are the huge amounts of sand that have accumulated in that area are not used to mitigate this process? Do you know that piles of sand devastate the surrounding forests and flora, which is visible to the naked eye? Do you plan to sell off this sand? We also ask publicly: has this sand been sold so far and , if so, how much".
They note that all these open questions, as well as the irresponsibility of the institutions towards the problem of erosion and the works on Bojana, raise doubts that the work conducted by the said institutions seriously smells not of corruption.
"After all, over a million euros have already been spent in this work, and the results are counterproductive and dangerously endanger the most valuable resource of the municipality of Ulcinj. Ada Island and part of Velika Plaža are unique natural phenomena and have immeasurable ecological, economic and touristic importance for Ulcinj and the entire country. But these exceptional resources are in great danger, as never before", concluded the Ulcinj URA.
