Authorities turn a deaf ear to the complaints of Tuški Rogam residents: Tires are dumped near houses

“It's been happening for years. Tires are unloaded on an unfenced lot, and it often happens that many people come there afterwards to take used tires and take them away. I wrote numerous letters to the inspectorates, but no one answered me", one of the locals complained to "Vijesta"

Used tires have been dumped on the unfenced meadow in Tuški Rogami for years, and several locals complained to "Vijesti" that despite numerous letters to various inspections, the authorities did not react and prevented this practice from continuing.

“It's been happening for years. Tires are unloaded on an unfenced lot, and it often happens that many people come there afterwards to take used tires and take them away. I wrote numerous letters to the inspectorates, but no one answered me", one of the locals complained to "Vijesta".

As he said, someone is allegedly allowed to store tires there temporarily.

"Tires are located near properties and houses. In summer it is unbearable, there are swarms of mosquitoes and flies. I asked for it to be sprayed to make it more tolerable for us. Fortunately, so far there has been no fire at that location," he said.

Other locals also confirmed to "Vijesta" that tires have been dumped at that location for years and that the authorities should do something about it.

The "Vijesti" journalist was convinced that the location is unfenced, the meadow is entered directly from the road, and there is no notice that waste is dumped there.

The Directorate for Inspection Affairs did not answer "Vijesti" whether they had received complaints from the locals and what was done about it.

As "Vijesti" wrote in April last year, the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism (MORT) announced that the state has finally decided to deal with air pollution from the fumes of burning car tires and that a location will soon be chosen where it will be temporarily disposed of. and store that kind of waste, that hasn't happened yet.

Meanwhile, the air in Podgorica and other cities in Montenegro was officially several times more polluted than allowed for days at the beginning of this year.

MORT previously announced that a Study on the selection of a location for the disposal and processing of waste tires should have been completed by October of last year. "Vijesti" did not answer how far the procedure has come, whether the location has been selected and where it is located.

Officials from MORT previously pointed out to "Vijesti" that the problem with waste tires worsens year by year due to the increase in the number of motor vehicles, as well as due to regulations in the field of traffic that require the use of winter tires.
