The president of the "Breznica" Ecological Society, Milorad Mitrović, filed three criminal charges for the destruction of archaeological sites in Pljevlja.
He filed reports against the contractors on the Pljevlja-Mihajlovica road, where the archaeological site of Trlica is located, as well as against unknown persons who, as he claims, devastated the archaeological sites of Mejtef and Mališina Pećina.
"As a representative of the NGO "Breznica", I am aware, and I personally saw for myself, that the responsible persons of the contractor for the extension of the third lane on the Pljevlja-Mihajlovica road, knowingly or unknowingly, significantly damaged and destroyed a very important archaeological site in the town of Trlica. I believe that the investor complied with the project documentation and urban-technical conditions, and I also believe that the designer and the institutions that prescribed and issued the urban-technical conditions, the construction permit for the execution of the works, were obliged to do studies and studies that would indicate the the existence of an archaeological site and the need to preserve it. The Institute for the Protection of Monuments is also responsible, which was also obliged to mark and mark this important site, and to keep up to date with the activities that were planned in the project documentation. Therefore, I believe that there are several responsible persons in these legal entities who should be included in reconnaissance and investigative activities and held accountable in accordance with legal regulations", Mitrović stated in the application.
Tombstones, i.e. stelae, have disappeared from the Meitef site, and holes are visible all around, both in the stream and in its coastal part, probably from the excavation of objects that were detected by metal detectors
A special problem, for which he filed a complaint, is the archaeological site in the town of Mejtef, not far from the village of Gradac near Pljevlja, which was ravaged and destroyed after a raid by treasure hunters.
"Several years ago, we followed the events at the archaeological site, which is located between the building of the agricultural cooperative and the picnic area, where there used to be a motel building that was demolished upstream along the stream. The ranger service of the NGO "Breznica" discovered the stelae that were undermined by the stream and that were located in that locality, I think there were five of them, so that after publication in the Pljeval newspaper, unknown persons would start digging and damaging those graves, i.e. grave sites with detectors and other equipment. Upon learning, we filed a report with the police in Pljevlja and pointed out these illegal actions and activities. After some time, the tombstones, i.e. the stelae, disappeared from that location, and all around, both in the stream and in its coastal part, holes are visible, probably from the excavation of objects that were detected by metal detectors," Mitrović's report says.
It is stated that on November 8, the activists of "Breznica", visiting the locality, were convinced that work was being done to dig up other tombstones, that is, graves, and that one of the tombs was opened on the side in a smaller part, "probably with the intention of removing the heavy tombstone move and enter the tomb".
"Given that we believe that this is an important archaeological site, because numbers and letters are written on the tombstones in Roman script, we request that, on the basis of technical operational activities, an attempt be made to obtain information and faces that have apparently been missing for a long period of time. are engaged in excavations in that locality and are destroying and desecrating it", said Mitrović.
The excavations are allegedly being carried out by unknown Russian citizens
"I am aware that excavations are being carried out at the archaeological site Mališina Pećina near the village of Ljutići by persons unknown to me, who come and have accommodation somewhere in Ljutići, supposedly they are Russian citizens, but no one I spoke to knows and I have not been able to find out who are people who spend a month at that locality, what are their motives, have they found any valuable items and jewelry and where are these possible items located. or at some other institution," says Mitrović's application.
