The Coalition for Sustainable Development (KOR) calls on the competent state and institutions of the Municipality of Žabljak to react urgently and "put an end to the devastation of forest resources on the very border of the Durmitor National Park."
"In fact, these days the devastation of the forest wealth right next to the borders of NP Durmitor by Pelengić and privileged opportunists, who were granted concessions by the former government, continues perhaps more intensively than ever. The final destruction of the forest has begun, as if there is no tomorrow and as if this the state and the people should not live in the coming years," KOR claims.
They say that in its reports, UNESCO strictly prohibited logging within the Durmitor National Park as well as in the areas along the very border of the park.
"Environmental activists and conscientious citizens have been fighting against the devastation of our forests for two years, but unfortunately they do not receive the necessary support from those whose job it is to protect the natural potential of the ecological state of Montenegro. KOR demands from the Administration for Inspection Affairs, National Parks, the Police Administration, The Forestry Administration, the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office and all other state authorities to finally start doing their job and start protecting state resources. We expect the new government, which we hope will be formed as soon as possible, because the daily delay only creates space for new poachers. to review every granted concession and promise the protection and restoration of our forests. Our activists will continue to visit the field in the coming days and inform the public about the crimes against the forests of Durmitor," it was concluded.
