The presidents of the municipalities of Herceg Novi and Tivat, Stevan Katić and Željko Komnenović, signed today the book of mourning that was opened at the Consulate General of Serbia in Herceg Novi on the occasion of the death of Serbian Patriarch Irinej.
Katic and Komnenovic said, as reported by the Municipality of Herceg Novi, that the departure of Patriarch Irinej is a sad moment for all Orthodox believers in Boka Kotorska, Montenegro and the entire region.
"Metropolitan Amfilohije almost left us, that's two big losses for the Serbian Orthodox Church in just twenty days. By writing in the mourning book, we wanted to honor the blessed patriarch Irinej in this way as well", said Katic.
Komnenović reminded that last year Irinej "visited our region, when he attended the meeting in Grblje".
"A lot of Orthodox believers were spiritually and emotionally connected to Mr. Irinej, who witnessed the Christian thought of reconciliation, neutrality and interfaith harmony, and these are the values that are inherited in our Boka," Komnenović said.
The presidents of the municipalities of Herceg Novi and Tivat were welcomed at the Consulate General by Consul Zoran Dojčinović, who thanked them and said that citizens of Montenegro can register in the book of mourning at the Embassy of Serbia in Podgorica and the Consulate General in Herceg Novi as of yesterday. . The book of mourning will be open today and tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 15 p.m.
The consul pointed out that when delivering mail to the deceased patriarch, all epidemiological measures prescribed by the National Coordinating Body for Infectious Diseases are observed.
Today is the Day of Mourning in Herceg Novi due to the death of Irinej. The Day of Mourning is marked by raising the flag at half-mast on the building of the Municipality of Herceg Novi, buildings of public institutions and companies founded by the Municipality, and facilities of local communities. Electronic and other media, organizers of public programs and content are obliged to adapt their programs and content to the Day of Mourning.
