The European Union (EU) in Montenegro launched a campaign on protected plant and animal species, within which they are presented in a picturesque and interactive way on the website www.biodiversitet.me.

The EU info center said that it is an educational campaign "I am with you too", and on the site you can learn about plants, mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles, insects and marine species protected within Natura 2000, the ecological network of protected areas that was formed by the EU.

As stated, Montenegro will become part of that network when it joins the EU, which is why it is already preparing proposals for areas, plants and animals that should be included.

"At this stage, we chose to present 54 protected species. We have prepared interesting illustrations, photos and texts about the brown bear and the chamois, the flamingos and grouse, the common dolphin and the golden coral, the lynxura and the creeping bluebell, the dragonfly and the tiger honeysuckle, the river turtle and the leopard skunk and many other important but endangered species that should to save," said the EU info center.

They stated that they collected data on protected species in cooperation with the Environmental Protection Agency, the Institute of Marine Biology in Kotor, and non-governmental organizations, the Bird Protection Center and the Montenegrin Society of Ecologists.

"You can also check your knowledge about protected species on the prize quiz on this website. The three best contestants, who will be announced in the first week of January, will win valuable prizes in the form of a package of eco wooden products, inspired by nature," said the EU info center.

They added that it is possible to win similar gifts during December on the Facebook and Instagram pages of the EU info center, during the next four weeks, as long as the campaign lasts.

It is said that the reason for organizing the campaign is the EU's Green Deal, which represents the EU's sustainable development strategy for the 21st century and sets the goal of making Europe the first climate-neutral continent.

"The EU has also prepared the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans, which obliges Montenegro and the countries of the region to take measures in the area of climate change and pollution prevention, energy and biodiversity development, mobility and circular economy, sustainable agriculture and food production," said EU info center.

It is added that these two EU strategic documents were presented at online lectures, which the EU Info Center organized in early December for the professional public and decision-makers.
