The memorial plaque to the revolutionary Nikola Lekić was discovered

The name and work of Nikola Lekić will remain permanently engraved in the annals of the revolutionary and anti-fascist movement, serving as a bright example, role model and inspiration for future generations - said the mayor of Prijestonica, Aleksandar Bogdanović, at the ceremonial unveiling of the memorial plaque to the prominent revolutionary.

The memorial plaque to Lekić, in the street that bears his name, was unveiled today by Bogdanović and the president of the NOB Fighters' Association and Cetinje anti-fascist Stevan Radunović.

"The memorial plaque that we are unveiling today will contribute to the longevity of the fight for freedom, equality and social justice, for which the revolutionary Nikola Lekić fought all his life. "He remained an unshakable Marxist, going through many difficult trials that often turned into suffering because of such commitment," said Bogdanović.

He pointed out that Cetinje, by erecting a memorial plaque, proves that it respects the history and deeds of its famous ancestors, as well as that this act, in a way, contributes to correcting the injustice that was once done to the secretary of the county and provincial committee of the Communist Party of Montenegro.

Radunović said that Lekić was an exceptional revolutionary and fighter for the ideas of communism and for the rights and freedom of Montenegro, but that, unfortunately, much less is known about him than his merits.

"Thanks to the engagement of Lekić, the Communist organization in Montenegro became extremely strong and was a kind of school that recruited the most important party cadres whose role is unchangeable, not only in the territory of Montenegro, but also in Yugoslavia," said Radunović.

He reminded that Lekić, along with communist ideas, advocated for the return of the rights and status of Montenegro, which was threatened after the unification in 1918, as well as that due to certain circumstances, he lost his positions in the party and was even excluded from its ranks. .

"His attitude towards the party and towards the fight for the freedom of Montenegro was not changed by that, but he continued to act, so he participated in the Thirteenth of July Uprising, and in the March demonstrations, and finally, he participated in the Battle of Pljevlja where he was killed." said Radunovic.

On behalf of the Lekić family, Nenad Lekić greeted those present.

Nikola Lekić was born in Cetinje in 1909. He graduated from the Commercial College in Zagreb, where he became a member of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia in 1931.

He was the secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia for Montenegro, Boka, Sandžak, Kosovo and Metohija.

Arrested by the authorities for communist activities, he spent two years in prison. He organized several mass meetings and demonstrations against the then authorities.

He died in the battle of Pljevlja on December 1, 1941 as a "non-party Bolshevik".
