The shortest month of the year is also known as the month of love.
The legend of Valentine's Day, a holiday celebrated every February 14, is one of the most famous in the world.
It originates from the period when Christianity was a young religion, and the priest Valentine disobeyed the cruel order of the Roman emperor that soldiers should not marry.
Namely, Claudius I believed that the family would take away their desire to fight, and Valentine secretly married them, until they imprisoned him.
He was executed on February 14, and the people proclaimed him a saint.
Valentine is a saint of the Roman Catholic and Protestant churches, but as Valentine's Day it has become part of global culture. Love unites, right?
However, we must not forget that in our area there are amazing examples of pure love that live on in legend. One such story is about Vladimir and Kosara.
Prince Vladimir Dukljanski was captured in the Bulgarian court as a young man in 997.
In the dungeon, love happened between him and the emperor's daughter Kosara, who saved the young prince's life.
Namely, the princess managed to persuade her father, the Bulgarian emperor Samuil, to give them his blessing for marriage and life in freedom.
So Vladimir and Kosara lived happily in their court in Krajina, until they killed the prince.
He was buried in Prespa, but Kosara was once again persistent and transferred her husband's body to the monastery of Prečista Krajinska on Lake Skadar, where she spent her last days as a nun Teodora.
The cult of Prince and later Saint Vladimir is highly respected in Bar.
The magnificent temple is named after him, and the city square after his love with Kosar. However, it is not the only romantic place in Bar.
The castle of King Nikola, which adorns the promenade, is the most beautiful building of its kind in Montenegro. It was built in the Neo-Renaissance style in 1885.
Built with a lot of love, right after the liberation of Bar, it looks like a fairytale castle, with cannons, watchtowers, a palace chapel, a ballroom and a luxurious garden.
There is also a romantic winter garden, a gift from the Italian King Vittorio Emanuele.
Every city has its own place for couples in love, but in Bar you will find something really special - the lighthouse.
By walking through the city marina, you reach the pier at the end of which there is a lighthouse.
This place has no street lights, but the lights of the city, from the harbor and from the boat create an atmosphere similar to that under candles.
If you visit during the day, you will see a handful of love messages written on the pavement.
It is believed that an engagement under the Old Olive Tree in Bar brings a happy and long-lasting marriage, and that this olive tree is really something special is evidenced by its life span - an incredible 2240 years.
For centuries, the oldest tree in Europe brings peace and gives happiness, love and health to those who find themselves under its canopy.
If you are superstitious, you can "lock" your love on the Željeznica bridge (near the ducks) while enjoying the sunset, which is the most beautiful from this spot.
