The Diocese of Budimlja-Nikšić condemned the act of desecration of the Hadži Ismail mosque.
"We believe that no true believer would do this. Every man, every true believer must protect his own sanctuary, but he must also protect the sanctuary of others," said archpriest-stavrophore Slobodan Jokić.
He agreed, as he pointed out, with the words of Imam Damir Hodžić that this act was not the work of the city of Nikšić.
"Nikšić is a gentleman's town and the town of Saint Vasilije of Ostrog, a saint who gathered all well-intentioned people who came to him, be they Orthodox, Muslims or Catholics. In the Lower Monastery in Ostrog there is a fresco on which Saint Vasilije heals a Muslim. That is a sufficient indicator the love he showed to every human being. We as clergy strongly condemn this action, whether it is an individual or some group. We demand from the competent authorities to solve the case as soon as possible and to find the perpetrators," stressed Jokić.
He said that the desecration of the mosque is a shame for Nikšić.
"We would not like anyone to recognize us by these individual appearances. We want to tell our Muslim brothers that they feel safe, that they have full support from us, because a brother is dear, no matter what religion he is," concluded Jokić.
