Redžematović: Shameful graffiti on the mosque; Hodžić: Nikšić is not Srebrenica, nor will it ever be

"I hope that this is not in the service of the pre-election campaign in Nikšić. This is not an incident, this is a trend that has been going on for a long time. It started in Pljevlja, through Beran, and now it is in Nikšić. The state authorities should have found all the perpetrators by now." said Redžematović

The chief imam for Podgorica and Nikšić, Džemo Redžematović, called the graffiti on the mosque building in Nikšić shameful, which, he said, was a shameful act by irresponsible individuals.

"I hope that this is not in the service of the pre-election campaign in Nikšić. This is not an incident, this is a trend that has been going on for a long time. It started in Pljevlja, through Beran, and now it is in Nikšić. The state authorities should have found all the perpetrators by now." said Redžematović.

He told TVCG that the authorities are obliged to find the perpetrators in order to put an end to all this: "I want to thank all non-governmental and religious organizations for their support to the Muslims of Nikšić and the Islamic community."

Hodžić: This was not done by the city of Nikšić

Nikšić imam Damir Hodžić told Television of Montenegro (TVCG) that this was not done by the city of Nikšić.

He recalled the meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament, Aleks Bečić, who was told that they were satisfied with the coexistence of Muslims in the town under Trebjes, and that they could not feel such problems until today.

"This is a shameful act that happened, it happened from sick minds. I don't want to say that these are citizens of our city, because there are most virtuous people here. With all our forces, when we are attacked by sick fatigues, try to fight against them. Everyone who enter our mosque, we will try to protect it," said Hodžić.

It is their duty, he says, to protect the religious building, and he calls on the authorities to take the matter into their own hands and to see progress, because similar incidents happened in Podgorica and Pljevlja.

"Nikšić is not Srebrenica, nor will it ever be. Srebrenica is a difficult and painful topic for us, and we often regret it. I appeal to the Police Directorate to do its job properly," said Hodžić, noting that such things will not intimidate them.
