A contingent of 2.000 Sputnik V vaccines arrived at the Podgorica airport on a Serbian state plane.
The Minister of Health, Jelena Borovinić Bojović, announced that another 2.000 doses of the same vaccine are expected in the coming days.
Prime Minister Ana Brnabić arrived in Podgorica on a Serbian state plane and was welcomed at the airport by Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić, members of his cabinet, and Minister of Health Jelena Borovinić Bojović.
Vaccines were taken by the vehicle of the "Montefarm" pharmacy.
Krivokapić thanked Brnabić and the state of Serbia "for bringing us the most precious gift..."
"Health above all, and solidarity above all. The citizens of Montenegro have been waiting for a long time for the vaccine to arrive. And here tonight, the 74th day since the Government was established, has arrived and one should ask what happened from August 30.8 to December 4.12 and why and we didn't do the biggest part of the work, like Serbia, to provide the citizens with what Serbia is, which is vaccines," Krivokapić said.
He said that he was pleased that Brnabić came to Montenegro.
"There will be opportunity and time and we will know how to host you as befits Montenegrin hospitality," Krivokapić said.
The prime minister also said that the citizens of Serbia "again this time in a friendly manner, renouncing their vaccines, sent them to Montenegro" and that "this is not the first time in history".
"Convey your gratitude to the citizens of Serbia," Krivokapić said during the meeting with Brnabić at the airport.
Brnabić said that she was extremely pleased to present a donation in the form of vaccines to all citizens of Montenegro.
"Serbia's donation of 4.000 vaccines is enough to vaccinate 2.000 people. We have brought the first doses, and soon we will donate the second dose. This may not seem like a large amount, but as we did with our friends in North Macedonia, it will be enough to vaccinate medical workers in the red zone, or the oldest population or part of the most vulnerable population," said Brnabić.
She expressed her admiration for the way Montenegro is fighting against Covid-19.
Brnabić thanked the Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović, the leaders of the Democratic Front Andrija Mandić and Milan Knežević who, as she said, "tried to get the vaccines to Montenegro as soon as possible."
"I am conveying Aleksandar Vučić's message that we are ready to donate more vaccines. If an additional donation is needed, we are here with you," said Brnabić.
