Situations in which journalists are exposed to danger when reporting on events that carry a certain security risk should worry both the authorities and citizens, according to the Media Union of Montenegro.

They were reacting to the attack on "Vijesti" journalist Jelena Jovanović during her coverage of the local elections in Nikšić, that is, in front of the premises of the coalition "For the Future of Nikšić".

"Although the intention of the enraged supporter was to hit the policeman who is in charge of maintaining public order and peace with the plucked wiper, colleague Jovanović was hit in the head area, above the eye. By sheer chance, there were no serious injuries. Situations like this should worry everyone, including the carriers authorities and citizens. The elections in Nikšić certainly had a specific weight, but human life and health should be a priority for every sane person," the union announced.

They believe that this shows that journalists and media workers are "often "collateral damage" of political tensions and reckoning in Montenegro."

The Trade Union said that they expect a reaction from the competent institutions.

"We believe that this should stop immediately, and we certainly call on all colleagues to be extremely careful when reporting from all political gatherings, because it is obvious that they can very easily, neither guilty nor liable, be victims of irresponsible behavior," they said.
