We appeal to all citizens to refrain from buying fish from Lake Skadar during the bans, as this is the best way to protect the fish stock and preserve the biodiversity of this protected area, announced today from the Public Enterprise National Parks of Montenegro (JPNPCG).
"From March 15 to May 15, a fishing ban is in force in the Skadar Lake National Park, which refers to the catch of all types of fish and other aquatic organisms, except eel. The beginning of this year's ban was the reason that, again this year, the Public Enterprise for the national parks of Montenegro, launched the campaign "Stop poaching". The goal of the campaign is to protect the fish stock precisely at the time when the fish spawn and when it is most vulnerable, in order to restore its population," the JPNPCG press release points out.
They added that with the campaign they are conducting, they want to prevent illegal fishing, suppress the illegal sale of fish and raise citizens' awareness of the importance of protecting fish populations during spawning.
"In cooperation with "Tržnica i pijace" doo Podgorica, at the entrances to the markets, markets and fish markets located within these facilities in the capital city, educational and informative posters will be placed, informing the public that by purchasing fish from Lake Skadar during the ban indirectly helps poaching," said the JPNPCG.
They said that they consider the fight against poaching to be one of their key priorities.
"We are determined to use all available means to preserve the biodiversity of Lake Skadar and protect our common natural heritage. We need the support of the public to succeed in this fight," said the JPNPCG.
